Hi there,
I have been to the last three Expos and loved them, and I *THINK* I have finally convinced the missus to let me buy a pinball for the house.
Can anyone recommend a good resource to start loooking for one? I have started to watch Craigslist, where they occasionally appear. I am also familiar with Charles Kalas' place downtown, but have a small budget and high hopes so I think maybe a private sale will net me more bang for my buck?
I noticed from the website that a Marcus Trevino had a Mystery Castle pin for sale at last year's expo, I can't find his name in the registered users list, does anyone know him? I know it was a long time ago, but I was wondering if I can contact him to see if it is still for sale by any chance.....
I have been watching these boards for a year or so and only a few posts get replied to. It seems that there are very few people on here but some of those who are here know a lot about the industry, is that an accurate observation?
Any thoughts, advice or recommendations would be welcome. |

Hello Gingaskunk,
Yes, Craigslist is a good place to find pinball machines. You may find a "home use only" machine or even ones that had been on route.
You can use NAVL to have one shipped for a reasonable $350 from up north.
I currently have a Star Trek Next Generation, Twilight Zone, Stargate, and a Data East Star Trek (which this one is currently up for sale.)
Good luck in your search. Make sure she plays it and likes it too before you buy it.

Hello Gingaskunk,
I just had some more thoughts for you.
If you want to try out a variety of pinball machines, go to Joystix on Friday, 6/26 or on 7/3. They are only open 2 Fridays a month to the public as an arcade. You can view a lot of their machines on www.joystixgames.com. It is a really cool place to hang out. I'm addicted to that place.
Also, when you search for a machine, you want to look at the sticker on the back of the machine and see that it is a 110 volt machine. Any that are labeled as 220 volt would be a re-import machine from overseas that has been converted. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but I wish I knew that before I bought 2 machines. I'm positive I would have passed on them if I had known that. I learned the hard way about this after I bought 2 machines.
If possible, you would want to find a pinball machine that has been "shopped out". Problem is, everyone has their own definition of this, as I found with my Twilight Zone. Cleaning the topside of the playfield is only half the job. Removing the subways underneath and cleaning those is the other part that needs to be done to keep the top of the playfield from getting dirty so very quickly.
